Stashbust for Kids

Kids are growing fast - Young Lady needed a pair of lighter pants and she ended up getting an extra dress of leftovers. All stashbust :) Good thing is I used all the patterns at least twice before so all of these went pretty quick. A tweak here and there so it doesn't look exactly the same at all times.

Other Makes

I did some stashbusting in the past few weeks as well - here´s the list -

Skirt cut on bias, totally simple A line

Dress for Young Lady Ottobre 3/2013 Flower Hexagon of leftovers
And the bonus sleeveless top (non stash). The original pattern was with facings on both back and front. I didn´t have enough fabric so I just used some stash bias binding on the edges.

Weary Morning

Going one morning to the office (one of the offices I need to go regularly) a colleague of mine had a remark about my outfit (and my whole appearance) being too dark. I tried not to hear it. He was persistent and said again later in the day. Even asked why. He was not trying to flirt - I´m almost sure he´s gay - just likes to make these remarks - including calling me young lady even though I have a few years on him (he´s being sarcastic).
This was the dress I was wearing - I made it back in 2013. That day I had  it on with light grey tights and red shoes. Not sure how much the fact that I had to hit the road before 6am and that we were just back from holiday added to the whole impression - I assume not as much as the dress. It was a beautiful morning.

The coincidence was that the same morning I was thinking the dress is getting a bit old (6ys of service) and I started to see some pilling on the fabric as well.

So I went to my stash I hoarded lately and picked up the latest Burda. Made this to show off next time in the office.

Pattern is Burda 5/2019. I keep screwing the back, here´s how it looked at the beginning -

And here it is fixed (yes, I had to remove the zipper). Now the patter is also somewhat aligned.

Transition continues

At least I´m taking pictures now of my September makes - trying to do it when stuff is not in the laundry.
More leggings for Young Lady and a pair of jogging pants. I´m getting very picky to buy stuff for my kids lately and discovered that clothing of 100% cotton is hard to find. At least the basics are easy to sew. Young Lady needs almost a full new wardrobe as she grew a lot.

Conquering Feared Silk

I bought 2m-s if digital print silk 2ys ago hoping one day I will have the guts to cut it. Being it sheer did not help with my fear for a while but time helps.
So when I realized I have no coverup for the beach and wanted to have something non-poly I made up my mind.
I used the Boho Chic Tunic Free Pattern from So Sew Easy and tweaked a bit. I cut the front in 1 piece as opposed to have a seam int he middle and didn´t leave an opening on the sides neither in the front.
Husband says this cut makes me look chubby -  he might be right so I might not use the pattern again but it´s still a nice piece for the beach.
Choosing an easy pattern was a wise idea - no new technique just sew as you go. I did French seams all over to avoid the seam showing through.

One-Row Shawl

By Purple Iguana @ Ravelry. Was an easy make just took ages.

Used a viscose yarn for this - was awful as it´s so slippery. I also switched hooks at about 2/3 - from 2 to 3mm. I think the 3mm was a better choise as the pattern was less dense with it.
Also I don´t like blocking the classical way - I only iron with a lot of steam at the end. Does the job, much faster and requires no extra space.

Took 200g (666m/100g skein)

Machine Embroidery

Prepping for Easter - door hanger (on theme for the 52-Week Sewing Challenge) and a set of toy food for the kids. I didn´t realize that smaller scraps of fabric can be used so good for stuff like this. I should remind myself though not to enter the rathole by keeping all the tiny bits and pieces of leftovers. Stitching these takes a lot of time - about an hour on average per piece. However these are in-the hoop designs which mean I don´t need to do anything else than removing the stabilizer when stitching is done.

Using leftovers

My daughter and I have a passion for fabrics. She´s only 2.5 but when she saw my simple turtleneck she immediately wanted something from the same fabric. So I used up the leftovers to the last little piece, matched it with some viscose fabric and made a summer dress for her.
I also used some more scraps of blue plaid to do another summer dress. You can´t prepare early enough and even though it´s like -3 Celsius at the moment it can change any moment to real nice weather. Tomorrow spring starts anyway. Officially.

Bár most -3 van, holnap hivatalosan is kezdődik a tavasz. Aztán meg bármikor lehet nyár.

Broad upper back adjustment

I like dresses with a bit higher waistline as I look slimmer in them. What I always knew is my back/shoulders are broader than average but until now I always managed to make things work.
With this one, everything went wrong. The fabric has no stretch so it didn't work with sleeves at all. I could zip it up but had no chance to move. Not enough fabric left for cutting another set of front-back bodice to do the adjustment. So, sleeves ripped off and made it sleeveless. I'm happy with how it came out as a wearable muslin for warmer days - but next time I'll keep in mind no-stretch fabric will not work without adjustment. I thought this will never come but life is such.

Final version

December -back to sewing

Partially.  Bein on holiday and having my parents over here helps with time a lot.

March Knits

I used a lot of my knits earlier this year and for March I planned mainly summer stuff for this kids.
This set I made for Young Lady of a fabric which I bought last year. The bindings are scraps so it´s a perfect stashbust. Pattern from Ottobre 3/2014.

Also made summer hats which turned out to be really pretty. The pattern is available for free download @ Purl Soho.
