Speaking of Charity

So, few ideas about charity.

1. Fabric purge

Be brutally honest to yourself and go through your stash. I´m sure there are a few pieces of fabrics you will NEVER use. Either it´s color issue, or a texture issue, or the fibres are not yours or whatever. Just get rid of these by giving them away either to charity organizations or local kindergartens/shcools or orphanages. They probably can make good use of it. Before showing up with a bag of these it´s worth to ask though. Same applies for larger pieces of scraps (when I say larger I mean big enough to make a doll´s dress or similar out of it). You´ll feel much better for a few reasons - no more stress to make use of these fabrics, more space in your storage AND you´ve made a few people happy.

This idea is also applicable for yarn stash.

2. Sewing for a good purpose

Like making shirt dresses for girls around the world. 

Or you can make Santa stockings for orphanages, kids hospice, hospitals etc.

Or kids scarves/hats from fleece leftovers.

October Is Sewing For Charity Month!

Even if you don´t own an embroidery machine the ideas at Embroidery Library are just awesome. Based on the pattern I made 48 stockings last year for charity (link here).

I won´t share all my ideas in the 1st post of the month so stay tuned there´s more to come :)

October Tally

I had planned somewhat more but still satisfied with October. Busted 8.7m stash and used 3m-s of fabric bought this year. At the moment I´m working on Xmas stockings for charity - need to do 48pcs total. Have 27 already complete, will make photos when the whole batch is done. I´m excited how they will look and hoping the kids will like them (to help this I´ll put some goodies in).

My last makes were partially successful. The skirt is great, the jacket is a complete fail and landed in the charity bag. The back is too tight, arm is cut way too low and I´m kicking myself for trusting a magazine never used before (Nähstyle Diana Moden). I didn´t even bother to take good quality pics. I Also made a few bottle aprons of scraps.

Disaster jacket

 Összességében az októberrel elégedett vagyok, elment 8.7m készlet meg 3m idén vett anyag. Sajnos a kabát nagyon nem lett jó, a karkivágás túl lent van és szűk a háta, ment is a családsegítős csomagba. Legközelebb okosabb leszek és nem bízok egy eddig ismeretlen újság mintájában vakon (Nähstlye Diana Moden). Készült 27db mikicsizma is, összesen 48 kell, ezeket majd egyben fotózom. Remélem a gyerekek örülni fognak, persze ezt segítendő nyilván lesz benne egy kis ez-az is meglepinek. Az Igazgyöngy Alapítvány ösztöndíjasai és ösztöndíj előszobás gyerekei fogják kapni. Készült még pár borkötény is, már karácsonyi hangulatban.

Sewing for Charity

It´s been 2 years since I´m actively stashbusting and now I got the chance to host a month´s theme - Sewing for Charity. I like the theme since I was always taught to share if I have more than I need.

Charity projects are great to bust scraps. Here are some examples - 

Baby bibs - pattern from here, instructions here.

Baby toys - 2 pieces of fabric with colorful ribbons in between.

Kids scarves from fleece scraps (15x90cm, cut at both bottoms, all edges raw, other embellishment voluntary)

And the stuff I don´t like that much but do from time to time - quilting from scraps.

All of the above can be used for people in need.

What will you do for charity?

Már 2 éve próbálok készleten levő anyagokból varrni, és most kaptam lehetőséget arra, hogy témát hostoljak - Októberben jótékony célokra varrunk. Ez nekem azért fontos, mert mindig arra tanítottak hogy ha többem van mint amennyire szükségem van osszam meg azokkal, akiknek nincs. Ezért aztán rendszeresen adományozok. A fenti példák egyben jó lehetőséget nyújtanak a maradékok felhasználására is.
