Save Your Hopeless Projects

Once upon a time I had dreams of making dresses using Tanya Whelan´s dress book. I had the perfect fabric for a dress with a 6-gore skirt and princess seams without the waist seam. As always I didn´t so any muslins and went straight to my fashion fabric. Was a big mistake - it turned out to be way too big. I started to rip off all the seams (yes, all were ready by then except neck and arm binding and zipper insert) and got tired of it. I was also too fast in some places and cut into the fabric.

The pieces were laying on my desk for a year or so. Then the idea came - don´t give up on it, make the skirt then. And so I did. Cut the skirt off and finished it. Nice summer skirt in super easy. I was so happy at the end not to lose the fabric completely (I really like it) and tapped myself on the shoulder for being such a genius. A bit slow genius but still one.

Machine Embroidery

Prepping for Easter - door hanger (on theme for the 52-Week Sewing Challenge) and a set of toy food for the kids. I didn´t realize that smaller scraps of fabric can be used so good for stuff like this. I should remind myself though not to enter the rathole by keeping all the tiny bits and pieces of leftovers. Stitching these takes a lot of time - about an hour on average per piece. However these are in-the hoop designs which mean I don´t need to do anything else than removing the stabilizer when stitching is done.

Carneval Season 2018

Junior wanted a policeman outfit. I waited until almost the last moment as he tends to change his mind. This time he explained he wanted a star on front. Let it be. I made him try and he was happy with it - except the snaps but he´ll soon realize these are cooler than zippers. Busted 1.6m of stash cotton woven too. This actaully fit into this week´s sewing theme as well - sew something for a boy.
In addition I made a turtleneck for myself - this was easy and super fast (as most of the time with knits).
Next up - need to make 2016's dino outfit  fit my daughter. (Mum, I don´t want to dress up as a dino. I want to be a dinosaur.)
I still love doing costumes.
The jacket was a simple make of Ottobre 4/20145 tweaked to be as simple as possible. The embroidery base color glows in the dark.

The pants went pretty fast as I´ve already done these at least 5 times on different sizes. Pockets are always a must. Pattern Ottobre 4/2014 tweaked by removing the bottom cuffs.

For the record - simple turtleneck

Meghímeztem a hátát is, a cérna világít a sötétben.

52 Week Sewing Challenge - Week 3

Went rogue - I just couldn´t resist this dress for my 2yr-old. It´s lined and made of embroidered corduroy. The fabric was in my deep stash.
Pattern Ottobre 6/2013. I could have done a better job with the lining but realized late that tulle was on the fabric list which I didn´t have. I ended up cutting the stripe out of the lining fabric - would have been easier if I just add the length to the lining.
Carneval season is approaching so I'm preparing to make costumes for the kids (right after they finally made up their minds what they wanted).

Added normal zipper - pattern calls an invisible one which I didn´t have
The lining fabric was also stash and awful to work with

52 Week Sewing Challenge

I´m part of the Stashbusting Challenge since 2015 - time to add something new. I joined the 52 Week Sewing Challenge group on FB - to be honest it helps me keep organized and manage my time more than anything else.
Week 1 was finishing a UFO for the Stashbusting Challenge - this week I just went rogue. Pattern is Ottobre 6/2013, cap sleeve dress for young lady. First time doing a cap sleeve lined. I did screw up a bit but since she´s growing fast I didn´t put a lot of effort fixing it to perfection. Might be doing more of these as she grows if she agrees - I like the cut a lot.
Fabric has been laying in my stash for about 6 years - cotton velveteen with some stretch and sequins. Was one of the first buys I made in Germany after I moved over.

Múlt héten befejeztem valamit - Stashbusting Challenge téma volt. Csatlakoztam a  52 Week Sewing Challenge group on FB csoporthoz is. A minta Ottobre 6/2013.
